Farmer’s Market Gin & Tonic

Gin and tonics are well and good but we don’t usually reach for one here at the studio unless its this one. After one, typically everyone wants a second. After the third, things start to get messy. We had a drink similar to this years ago at one of our favorite Pizzeria’s, Franny’s in Brooklyn, and we’ve been drinking them ever since.

Lastly, if you haven’t tried using an upscale tonic like Q Tonic or artisanal gin like DH Krahn’s – to make your gin and tonics…. treat yourself sometime, you’ll be glad you did.

Gin and Tonic

Farmer's Market Gin & Tonic

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 30 mins
Yields: 1 cocktail

Ingredients

  • 2 oz gin
  • tonic water (preferably Q tonic)
  • 2–3 basil leaves
  • veggie slices: cucumber, radish and carrots

Method

  1. Add basil leaves to empty Collins glass.
  2. Measure 2 oz gin and add to the glass.
  3. Muddle the basil with the gin… muddle and muddle again (a muddling stick is helpful, a wood spoon works in a pinch) The idea is to infuse the flavor of the basil into the gin.
  4. Fill the glass ¾ full with ice.
  5. Add cucumber and radish slices.
  6. Top off with tonic water and stir well.
  7. Add carrots stick(s) to garnish and serve. Bottoms up!
